Chroma Musica’s VoiceCamp in Laval celebrates its 20th anniversary this summer with a lively production titled “Return to Oz,” merging elements from The Wizard of Oz, The Wiz, and Wicked. The campers, aged six to 14, have poured their creativity into crafting costumes and sets, while honing their acting, singing, and dancing skills. The 30-minute show, created in just two weeks, promises a glitter-filled disco adventure filled with friendship, forgiveness, and teamwork.
“I’m thrilled for this show,” shared 10-year-old camp participant Cassyanna Ilceus, who takes on the role of Oz. “I adore VoiceCamp as it allows me to indulge in my passion for theater, singing, and dancing.”
The excitement extends to 11-year-old camper Thea Tsekeris, who expressed her joy in making costumes, learning choreography, and attending singing classes during the camp.
Director Dimitris Ilias, who co-founded the Broadway camp with his wife two decades ago, commended the campers’ talents and predicted a fantastic performance. Juliana Theos, a former VoiceCamp participant turned stage director and scriptwriter, embodies the camp’s inspirational journey by returning to nurture the budding talents of the next generation.
The showcase will take place at Laval’s Palace Convention Center on July 15 at 6 p.m. and July 16 at 1 p.m., with tickets available for $5 at the door. It’s a heartwarming event not to be missed, offering a glimpse into the passion and dedication of young performers.
