Get ready to cheer on your favorite NHL teams as the 2026-27 season is just around the corner! The NHL recently unveiled its opening night lineup for the upcoming season, which kicks off on Tuesday, Sept. 29, with a thrilling lineup of five games.

Among the highly anticipated matchups are the Toronto Maple Leafs facing off against the Montreal Canadiens in an Original Six clash, and the Edmonton Oilers taking on the Vancouver Canucks in a Pacific Division battle. Fans can catch these exciting games on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+.

After a hiatus of four seasons, the Leafs return to the opening night spotlight, bringing a fresh buzz to the start of the season. The action begins at 5 p.m. ET with the reigning Stanley Cup champions, the Carolina Hurricanes, going head-to-head against the Florida Panthers.

In addition to these games, hockey enthusiasts can look forward to the New York Rangers squaring off against the Boston Bruins in another Original Six showdown, and the Vegas Golden Knights hosting the Chicago Blackhawks, the runner-up in the previous Cup final.

The NHL has also announced a lineup of key dates and marquee matchups throughout the season. Fans can mark their calendars for the Heritage Classic on Oct. 25, where the Jets will host the Canadiens in an outdoor spectacle at Princess Auto Stadium in Winnipeg.

The season will also feature the NHL Global Series, with teams traveling abroad for international matchups. The Hurricanes and Seattle Kraken will clash in Helsinki on Nov. 12 and 14, while the Blackhawks and Ottawa Senators will compete in Düsseldorf, Germany, on Dec. 18 and 20.
