Just days before the start of the school year and the start of the election campaign, CSQ President Éric Gingras is asking political parties to have “the courage” to say that “things are not going well” in education and that it is necessary to reinvest in it.
Gingras and his three federations, which represent teachers, professionals and school support staff, met with the press on Monday in Montreal, as part of the traditional back-to-school conference for elementary and secondary schools.
He said the education network has a funding problem, shortage problems, a problem of heavy workload, a problem of job insecurity, which leads to problems in retaining and attracting staff.
In addition to these problems, there are issues of violence, digital technology, and infrastructure.
The CSQ is therefore renewing its demand for a national education conference that would bring together stakeholders in the education system to develop an education plan for the next 15 to 20 years. Gingras reminded everyone that the last major education conference dates back to 1995.
