Vincent Marissal’s Brief Stint as PQ Candidate Ends Abruptly
Vincent Marissal, a former Québec solidaire MNA, found his short-lived candidacy with the Parti Québécois (PQ) cut short after only two days. The decision came after PQ Leader Paul St-Pierre Plamondon revealed on social media that Marissal was being removed from the Taschereau riding due to allegations of ethical misconduct.
St-Pierre Plamondon disclosed that Marissal had reportedly used his parliamentary allowance to lend his apartment in exchange for accommodation through an online home exchange platform, which raised concerns of receiving an advantage of market value, despite no direct monetary gain. This ethical breach, violating the code of conduct for elected officials, led to Marissal’s withdrawal from the candidacy.
In a statement, St-Pierre Plamondon expressed his respect for Marissal but emphasized the need to uphold the party’s ethical standards without exceptions. The PQ leader announced that a new candidate for the Taschereau riding would be revealed soon.
Marissal’s entry into the pre-election campaign had garnered attention earlier in the week, as the former Québec solidaire MNA, who had previously considered affiliations with the Liberal Party of Canada, stepped in last minute to replace candidate Jeanne Robin in Taschereau. However, his time as a PQ candidate was short-lived due to the alleged ethical misconduct.
