Following the official kick-off of the election campaign, a recent poll indicates that Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ) Leader and current Premier Christine Fréchette is gaining popularity among voters.
A voter intention survey conducted by Synopsis-La Presse and released on Friday revealed that while the Parti Québécois (PQ) remains the frontrunner to lead the next government with 28% support from Quebecers, the CAQ is in a statistical tie at 27%. This marks a significant increase of seven percentage points compared to the previous poll conducted by the same organization.
The CAQ’s rise in popularity appears to have come largely at the expense of the Quebec Liberal Party (PLQ), which saw a decline to 20%, dropping by six percentage points in just two weeks.
According to the survey, the Conservatives (PCQ) and Québec solidaire (QS) garnered 14% and 10% respectively in terms of voter favorability.
Fréchette, who has likened U.S. President Donald Trump as her “main opponent,” emerged as the most trusted leader among voters, with 46% of Quebecers believing she is best equipped to navigate the trade tensions with the United States.
The survey also indicated that 37% of respondents placed their trust in PQ Leader Paul St-Pierre Plamondon, while 26% expressed confidence in PLQ Leader Charles Milliard to safeguard Quebec’s interests amidst the ongoing trade challenges with the U.S.
The voter intention poll involved 867 participants surveyed between August 24 and 26.
