A tragic incident on Route 338 near Highway 30 has left a motorcyclist dead following an illegal overtaking maneuver by a car driver. The collision, which took place on Friday evening, resulted in the loss of a man in his 40s from the Lanaudière region.
Sergeant Audrey-Anne Bilodeau from the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) reported that the fatal collision occurred when the car driver attempted to overtake on a double solid line, leading to a collision with the oncoming motorcycle. The motorcyclist was rushed to the hospital in critical condition but sadly succumbed to his injuries.
The driver of the car, also in his 40s, was taken to the Salaberry-de-Valleyfield hospital for shock and is now facing criminal charges, including dangerous driving causing death. An investigation, involving specialists and reconstruction experts, was conducted at the scene overnight, with Route 338 reopening by 3:00 a.m.
The Sûreté du Québec is continuing its investigation into the incident to determine further details.
