In an update concerning the upcoming elections, Élections Québec has announced a change in the way voter information will be provided. Going forward, voter information will be sent out solely in French, in accordance with language laws.
Previously, voter information cards were issued in both English and French. However, due to recent legislation passed in 2022 designating French as the exclusive language for communication by public institutions, Élections Québec is adjusting its practices.
To address the language diversity of the population, the agency will include a QR code on this year’s documents, allowing access to information online in English. Indigenous voters and individuals who require instructions in English are advised to reach out to Élections Québec to request documents in English.
Élections Québec aims to distribute information cards to voters by Sept. 18, in preparation for the election scheduled for Oct. 5.
