Scott Anderson, Member of Parliament representing the Vernon-Lake Country-Monashee area, has a strong message for Pete Hegseth: “Canadians and Americans should get along, but your actions are unacceptable.”
Anderson’s response comes after the U.S. defense secretary attempted to ridicule the Canadian military by sharing a photo of Cadet officers online.
In a bold statement, Anderson addressed Hegseth directly, emphasizing the importance of responsibility and respect that comes with being in a position of power. He criticized Hegseth for intentionally humiliating two female Canadian non-combatants publicly.
Hegseth’s recent post on social media featured an image from the Cadet Training Centre in Vernon, showcasing two young women in uniform with a caption that sparked controversy.
Despite facing backlash, the Pentagon stands by Hegseth’s post, reflecting the ongoing strain in relations between the U.S. and Canada.
The incident not only prompted derogatory remarks about the cadets’ appearance but also ignited a wave of support and defense from Canadians.
Many individuals expressed their disapproval of targeting a youth program to undermine Canada’s military, particularly calling out the disrespect towards women serving in the cadet program.
