Maple Ridge on High Alert: RCMP Issues Counterfeit Cash Warning to Local Businesses and Residents

Maple Ridge Police Issue Alert Over Fake Money Scam

Businesses and residents in Maple Ridge are being urged to stay vigilant as the local RCMP reports a surge in counterfeit currency incidents. Over the past weeks, authorities have documented a notable increase in the circulation of fake $50 and $100 bills across various establishments in the city.

While many affected businesses were quick to spot the fraudulent notes and alert the police, some fell victim to the scam, leading to financial losses. The RCMP emphasizes that using or holding counterfeit money is illegal, and businesses won’t be compensated for any losses incurred.

Frontline Sgt. Daniel Rettenbacher of Maple Ridge RCMP is advising the public to be cautious and proactive in safeguarding against this growing fraud issue. He stresses the importance of business owners training their staff to identify security features on Canadian banknotes and implementing proper cash-handling protocols.

Both businesses and customers are reminded to exercise caution during transactions and verify the authenticity of banknotes to prevent falling prey to counterfeit schemes.
