Montreal Canadiens’ Mike Matheson fined $5,000 for altercation with Ottawa Senators’ Ridley Greig
Montreal Canadiens’ defenseman Mike Matheson faced a fine of $5,000 after an incident with Ottawa Senators’ forward Ridley Greig, as confirmed by the NHL Department of Player Safety. The fine imposed is the maximum allowed under the CBA.
The altercation occurred during the second period of their recent game, where Matheson retaliated against Greig who had taken him down in front of the net. Matheson delivered a punch to Greig’s head and followed it up with a couple of shots on the ice. Both players received two-minute penalties for roughing.
The Canadiens are gearing up to kick off their regular season on Sep. 29 against the Toronto Maple Leafs, while the Senators will commence their season against the same team on Oct. 3.
