Toronto police have identified the two individuals whose bodies were found in separate burned-out vehicles in different parts of the city last week.
The first victim, 32-year-old Marcus Charles, was discovered in a vehicle set ablaze in a hydro field near Reesor Road and Steeles Avenue East in Scarborough on the night of Sept. 21. Shortly after, another vehicle fire was reported at James Gardens Park in Etobicoke, where the body of 30-year-old Mohamud Kheyre was found.
These incidents mark the 27th and 28th homicides in Toronto this year. Police have confirmed that both victims were shot before their vehicles were set on fire.
Detective Sergeant Henri Marsman stated that while the two incidents occurred within a short time frame, investigators are still determining if they are connected or if the victims had any prior association.
The burnt-out vehicle in Etobicoke was identified as a rental car, whereas the one in Scarborough had been reported stolen from the Greater Toronto Area.
