A 78-year-old man from Laval has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the tragic death of his 77-year-old partner, according to the local police.
The incident unfolded when officers discovered the woman’s lifeless body and the injured man in a condominium located in the Chomedey area of Laval, just north of Montreal, on a fateful Tuesday afternoon.
Following the discovery, Ronald Thibault, the suspect, was promptly transported to a hospital for treatment of his non-life-threatening injuries. Subsequently, authorities conducted an interview with Thibault regarding the incident.
Upon completion of the investigation, the case was handed over to the Quebec Crown prosecutor’s office for further legal proceedings.
Thibault was scheduled to make a virtual appearance in court as part of the legal process.
Authorities revealed that they are exploring the possibility of labeling the incident as a femicide, shedding light on the disturbing trend of violence against women.
This tragic event marks the second time in a week that a woman has lost her life in her own home within the province. In a separate incident, Montreal police discovered the body of Leïla Ben Salem in her downtown apartment just days before.
