The Howe Sound Mill to Stay Open as Domtar Strikes Deal with Government
The Howe Sound mill, a vital part of the community in Port Mellon on the Sunshine Coast, is set to remain operational following an agreement between its owner, Domtar, and the provincial government. Domtar has confirmed that the mill will undergo essential maintenance work before resuming its regular production activities.
In an official statement released recently, Domtar expressed gratitude towards the provincial government for its cooperation during a challenging period for the forestry industry. The company emphasized the collaborative effort as a crucial initial step in bolstering the sector’s resilience and ensuring a sustainable future.
Employing around 400 individuals, the Howe Sound mill plays a significant role in the local economy and supports numerous families in the region.
