The ongoing inquest into the tragic death of Regis Korchinski-Paquet is shedding light on critical medical insights and personal accounts. Dr. Julien Hébert, a neurologist who reviewed Korchinski-Paquet’s medical records posthumously, began his testimony and is set to address the coroner’s inquest today.
Dr. Hébert’s testimony revealed that Korchinski-Paquet, who tragically fell to her death from a Toronto balcony in a harrowing incident involving the police, had a history of seizures stemming from epilepsy. He noted instances where she exhibited symptoms consistent with postictal delirium or postictal psychosis, conditions that can manifest after seizures, including confusion, aggressive behavior, and temporary amnesia.
The inquest, which commenced more than six years after the unfortunate incident, is slated to continue for 14 days with a lineup of 13 witnesses expected to provide their accounts. Among the potential witnesses are Korchinski-Paquet’s family members, including her mother, father, and brother, as well as five of the six police officers who were present at the scene.
