Canadiens Hit with Key Injuries: Xhekaj Sidelined for Two Weeks, Matheson’s Return Uncertain

Florian Xhekaj, a young player for the Montreal Canadiens, will be sidelined for two weeks due to a lower-body injury, as announced by the team on Friday.

Xhekaj was absent from the recent game against the Red Wings and subsequent matchups on Tuesday and Wednesday due to an undisclosed injury. His discomfort during Monday’s practice led to an early departure from the ice.

The 22-year-old, a fourth-round pick, has played two games this season with no points, averaging 7:36 minutes per game.

In addition to Xhekaj’s injury update, the Canadiens confirmed that Matheson’s status remains unchanged, as the player continues to be day-to-day with a lower-body injury. Matheson had been a key player for the team before his injury, leading in time on ice and contributing one assist in five games.
