Saint-Charles Boulevard in Kirkland, located on Montreal’s West Island, is bustling with traffic, exceeding its original capacity of 30,000 vehicles per day to now accommodate around 42,000 vehicles daily.
In response to the increasing congestion, the city has adopted a cutting-edge, AI-powered traffic light system as a solution. This innovative technology is designed to enhance traffic flow along the busy boulevard.
The “NoTraffic” system utilizes advanced cameras and radars to monitor intersections with an impressive accuracy rate of 99.5%. By predicting traffic patterns up to two minutes in advance, the system can dynamically adjust traffic lights in real time to minimize wait times and optimize traffic movement.
Not only does this AI-driven system alleviate congestion, but it also contributes to improved intersection safety, reduces pedestrian delays, decreases greenhouse gas emissions, and enhances air quality in the area.
