Vandals Strike Again: Toronto’s Latest Speed Camera Sabotaged on O’Connor Drive

Overnight, the 30th speed camera in Toronto was vandalized, this time at the junction of O’Connor Drive and Coxwell Avenue.

Early on Tuesday, CityNews reported the camera at O’Connor Drive was found knocked over.

Just two days ago, the notorious Parkside Drive speed camera was also vandalized for the seventh time within a year.

Footage from a surveillance camera revealed the act of vandalism at Parkside Drive earlier this year.

The video, captured by a trail camera set up by a concerned citizen in the bushes nearby, showed a shadowy figure using a step ladder and what seemed to be a Sawzall to bring down the camera before making a quick getaway.

A City of Toronto spokesperson stated on Monday that this was the 29th time a pole-mounted camera had been destroyed.

The recent incident at O’Connor Drive now makes it the 30th speed camera vandalism in the city over the past year.

CityNews obtained a list from city officials documenting the cameras destroyed in the past year, excluding the latest incident at O’Connor Drive.

The Parkside Drive camera experienced vandalism seven times within 10 months.
