“Major Burnaby HWY 1 Off-Ramp Reopening Imminent; Repairs to Persist with Nightly Closures”

After undergoing repairs and safety upgrades since July, a significant roadway in Burnaby is set to reopen on Tuesday, albeit later than initially anticipated. The Kensington Avenue off-ramp on Highway 1, which had been closed for “pavement settlement issues,” will resume operations at 11 p.m.

Despite a delay in the reopening, DriveBC has announced that the off-ramp will continue to have nightly closures from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. between September 10 and October 31. According to 1130 NewsRadio Traffic Reporter Alex Carrigan, the closure initially caused traffic disruptions, prompting commuters to find alternative routes.

Carrigan highlighted that the off-ramp, constructed on swampland, had developed uneven pavement, necessitating the ongoing repairs. He emphasized that the summer season provided an optimal window for the maintenance work to be carried out efficiently.
