Richmond Mayor Malcolm Brodie announced on Tuesday that he will not seek re-election next October, marking the end of his 25-year tenure in office. Reflecting on his time in service, Brodie expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead the city through periods of growth, challenges, and accomplishments.
During his tenure, Mayor Brodie oversaw significant projects such as the construction of the Richmond Oval for the 2010 Games and the Canada Line, leaving a lasting impact on the city’s development.
While Brodie’s legacy includes notable achievements, he faced criticism in recent months for his involvement in receiving over $300,000 from the Metro Vancouver Regional District and TransLink for serving on their boards.
Looking ahead, the next general local elections in British Columbia are set for Oct. 17, 2026. Brodie affirmed that he will continue to fulfill his duties diligently until the conclusion of his term, ensuring a smooth transition for the future leadership of Richmond.
