“Over 3,500 Fines Slapped During Intense Back-to-School Safety Blitz on Micromobility Vehicles”

Toronto police have handed out more than 3,500 tickets to drivers as part of a recent crackdown on micromobility vehicles and back-to-school safety.

The bulk of the tickets, totaling over 3,350, were issued to drivers operating within 150 meters of schools for infractions such as speeding and driving while distracted.

Additionally, 179 tickets were given to micromobility vehicle operators during the enforcement campaign, which aimed at educating and ensuring compliance with rules for micromobility use on various road types, including bike lanes, sidewalks, and crosswalks.

Micromobility vehicles encompass compact, low-speed options like bicycles, e-bikes, e-mopeds, and e-scooters.

In a recent public service announcement shared on their social media platforms, Toronto police emphasized the importance of cyclists and micromobility drivers following road regulations. This includes refraining from actions like riding against traffic on one-way streets, running red lights or stop signs, and using sidewalks as thoroughfares.
