Projet Montréal, a prominent political party in Montreal, has unveiled plans to enhance bike sharing services throughout the city if they secure victory in the upcoming municipal election.
Luc Rabouin, the leader of Projet Montréal, is advocating for a more inclusive Montreal, where residents can conveniently access amenities within a short 15-minute walk.
In alignment with this vision, Projet Montréal recently disclosed their intention to boost the availability of public toilets across Montreal as part of their broader accessibility strategy.
The party emphasizes the significance of proximity, noting that currently, only a quarter of Montreal’s population utilizes bike sharing services. Their goal is to ensure that every Montrealer can reach a bike sharing station within a 15-minute walk by the end of the next term.
Rabouin expressed, “Projet Montréal has always prioritized the well-being of Montreal residents. Bixi, with its 15 million trips in 2024, has become a beloved mode of transportation for Montrealers.”
The party’s initiative focuses not just on expanding Bixi stations but on integrating mobility services into residential areas across all neighborhoods. They aim to offer accessible, affordable, and reliable transportation options to all residents, regardless of where they live.
Projet Montréal plans to introduce more than 1,000 new Bixi stations over the next four years, with a strategic emphasis on outlying neighborhoods while ensuring a robust network in central areas for consistent service.
Rabouin highlighted the enthusiasm for Bixis in Rivière-des-Prairies–Pointe-aux-Trembles and pledged to enhance access in these communities. The addition of new stations is seen as a concrete step towards improving local mobility and providing modern and sustainable services to residents in eastern Montreal.
Caroline Bourgeois, a candidate for re-election as mayor of Rivière-des-Prairies–Pointe-aux-Trembles, expressed pride in the progress towards a more equitable city, starting with improved mobility in their community.
