Overnight Surge in Peachland Wildfire Forces New Evacuations and Alerts

Emergency officials in the Okanagan area of British Columbia are dealing with a wildfire that has expanded to over two square kilometers, prompting the evacuation of hundreds of residents. The Central Okanagan Emergency Operations has confirmed that all evacuation orders and alerts related to the Munro Lake wildfire are still in place. Currently, these orders affect 325 properties in Peachland, located approximately 25 kilometers southwest of Kelowna. Furthermore, over 1,100 properties near the fire are on alert, with residents advised to be prepared for a potential evacuation at short notice.

Meanwhile, the BC Wildfire Service has reported that the wildfire grew slowly overnight, although the situation could change with the expected arrival of sunny weather and strong winds from the southwest. This adds to the challenges faced by emergency responders as they work to contain the blaze.

At present, there are approximately 111 active wildfires burning across the province of British Columbia.
