In a crackdown on retail theft, twenty individuals were apprehended and charged in a recent police operation at a shopping plaza in Oshawa.
The Durham police initiated “Safe Shop” in response to a surge in theft incidents near Harmony Road North and Taunton Road East in late September. As part of this campaign, officers engaged with business owners to raise awareness about preventing theft and conducted active patrols to monitor the situation.
After four days of intense monitoring, the operation concluded on September 26 with a total of 26 charges being filed against the arrested individuals. Notably, five of the suspects had outstanding theft charges and now face additional counts for violating their release conditions.
While the identities of the arrested individuals remain undisclosed, authorities have refrained from sharing specific details about the charges against them.
Keyphrase: Retail theft crackdown.
