“Rail Chaos East of Oshawa: Via Rail Collision Snarls Traffic, Disrupts Multiple Routes”

Via Rail, Canada’s national passenger rail service, has reported an incident involving one of its trains near Oshawa, leading to the suspension of services on various routes.

The incident, which occurred at approximately 4:15 p.m. on Thursday, involved train 66 traveling from Toronto to Montreal. Fortunately, there were no injuries to passengers or onboard crew members. A spokesperson expressed sympathy for those affected by the event.

While the exact cause of the collision has not been disclosed by Via Rail, a witness onboard the train informed CityNews that the train collided with a vehicle on the tracks before abruptly stopping.

In response to the incident, emergency crews have closed the tracks for an investigation, resulting in delays for trains operating between Toronto, Ottawa, and Montreal. Passengers on trains 46, 47, 48, 54, 67, 68, 645, 646, and 668 should expect delays.

Acknowledging the inconvenience caused to customers, Via Rail has expressed regret for the disruption to travel plans and reassured the public of ongoing efforts to address the situation promptly.
