The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) has announced a shift in their strike strategy, moving from a nation-wide strike to rotating strikes.
In a recent statement released by the union’s President, Jan Simpson, it was revealed that the transition to rotating strikes will commence on Saturday, October 11th at 6 AM local time. Simpson emphasized that while this change will help in moving mail and parcels, their primary focus remains on securing fair collective agreements and maintaining a robust public postal service.
Addressing the decision, Simpson acknowledged the gravity of the situation, stating, “We did not take the decision to move to a nation-wide strike lightly.” She further highlighted that postal workers are eager to reach new collective agreements and resume mail deliveries, preferring that over resorting to strike action.
The specific locations and details of the rotating strikes will be communicated to the respective local branches closer to the commencement date, as mentioned in the statement.
