Quebec launches new daycare registration platform in November

Quebec to Introduce New Daycare Registration System in November for Fairness and Transparency

The Quebec government is set to unveil a revamped daycare registration system in November, with the goal of enhancing fairness and transparency in the process. This new system will be a replacement for the existing La Place 0-5 portal, marking a significant shift in how families are prioritized for daycare placements.

Unlike the previous first-come, first-served model, the upcoming system will focus on prioritizing families based on their child’s start date rather than the date of registration. As part of the transition, the current La Place 0-5 portal will be phased out by October 16. Only the records of children born before this date, who are still awaiting daycare placement, will be automatically transferred to the new registration platform. Parents of unborn children will need to re-register after their child’s birth.

Currently, there are over 30,000 children on the waiting list for daycare spots in Quebec, highlighting the need for a more streamlined and efficient registration process.

The new registration portal will roll out in three phases:

– In October, daycares will establish their accounts and admission criteria.
– Throughout November, parents will have the opportunity to create or update their profiles on the platform.
– By December, once the portal is fully operational, parents will be able to view their child’s ranking on the priority list and assess their chances of securing a spot promptly.

To prepare for the transition, parents are encouraged to update their information on La Place 0-5 before the blackout period begins on October 16.
