Prime Minister Mark Carney is set to embark on a journey to Egypt to participate in a significant summit centered around the recent truce brokered by U.S. President Donald Trump between Israel and Hamas.
Carney will be traveling to the vibrant city of Sharm el-Sheikh to join global leaders in a “peace summit” organized by Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi, emphasizing diplomatic efforts in the region.
The summit will witness the presence of heads of government and state from various Middle Eastern nations, along with representatives from France, Germany, and the U.K., showcasing a united front towards peace initiatives.
With the truce now in its third day, relief organizations are gearing up to deliver essential supplies like food and medicine to the Palestinian community in the Gaza Strip, as Israel initiates a gradual withdrawal of its troops.
Anticipated developments include Hamas releasing approximately 20 captives on Monday morning, in exchange for the release of Palestinian detainees by Israel, alongside the return of bodies of 28 Israeli hostages.
While Trump played a critical role in brokering the current truce, uncertainties loom over the prospects of a sustainable long-term ceasefire or the possibility of a comprehensive peace agreement being achieved.
