Carney Announces Major Overhaul: Stricter Bail and Sentencing Regulations Set to Launch Next Week!

The government is set to implement new bail reform laws to enhance public safety by preventing violent criminals and repeat offenders from being released.

Prime Minister Mark Carney has revealed plans for the Minister of Justice to present legislation next week focusing on reverse-onus bail provisions for violent and organized crime-related charges.

Under the proposed reverse-onus provision, individuals seeking bail will be required to demonstrate to the court why they should be trusted for release, shifting the burden of proof from the Crown to the accused.

Speaking in Etobicoke on Thursday, Carney emphasized the need to tighten bail regulations to prevent repeat violent offenders from re-entering society swiftly. He stated, “We’re strengthening bail processes to ensure your safety.”

In addition to bail reform, the legislation aims to bolster law enforcement by recruiting 1,000 new RCMP personnel.
