Residents in the Squamish area north of Vancouver are being cautioned by British Columbia’s Conservation Officer Service following a recent bear encounter. A woman walking her dog in the Squamish Estuary Wildlife Management Area was surprised by a sow bear with cubs, resulting in a minor injury.
To ensure safety, the Conservation Officer Service advises people to steer clear of the trail network in the Squamish Wildlife Management Area. If venturing into the area, it is crucial to keep dogs on a leash. Additionally, hikers are urged to create noise, carry bear spray, and refrain from approaching or feeding wildlife encountered in their natural habitat.
Known for its diverse fish and wildlife population, the Squamish Estuary Wildlife Management Area remains a habitat for various species.
