Barnet Highway was temporarily closed in both directions Tuesday morning after a multi-vehicle crash.
Burnaby RCMP Cpl. Mike Kalanj says officers first responded to the crash near the Suncor oil refinery terminal before 7 a.m.
The highway, which runs the northern edge of the SFU campus connecting Burnaby to Port Moody, was closed westbound from Clarke Street in Port Moody and eastbound from around Cariboo Road.
Mounties confirm one westbound lane has opened as of 9:10 a.m.
“It won’t be fast. But if you are already on your way to Barnet, and you’re heading westbound, you will get through,” said Kalanj.
He says eastbound remains closed, but police are working to reopen the highway as soon as possible.
In a post to social media, the Port Moody Police Department said it is assisting the Burnaby RCMP, and asked the public to avoid the area.
Drivers can take Hastings Street, Burnaby Mountain Parkway, Gagliardi Way, Broadway and Clarke Road in either direction to avoid delays.
