‘Very long journey ahead’: Air Canada flight attendant injured in LaGuardia crash shares update on recovery

An Air Canada flight attendant, who was ejected from a plane during a deadly crash at New York’s LaGuardia Airport in March, says she is slowly recovering while undergoing multiple surgeries.

Solange Tremblay, a 26-year veteran flight attendant, was thrown more than 320 feet from Jazz Flight 8646 after it collided with a fire truck on the runway the night of March 22. The aircraft, inbound from Montreal, was severely damaged in the impact, which killed both pilots and destroyed the cockpit.

According Tremblay’s daughter, Sarah Lépine, who had set up a GoFundMe fundraiser for her, Tremblay suffered two shattered legs with open fractures requiring multiple surgeries and the insertion of metal plates. She also sustained a fractured spine.

On April 5, Tremblay shared an update on her recovery saying that her “spine was fine” and that she was expected to get a third surgery on her right leg this week.

She also thanked the donors who had contributed over $250,000 to the campaign.

“I am slowly recovering and have alot of support from my employer, my family, and friends near and far,” she wrote. “I still have a very long journey ahead of me to recover physically and mentally, but I am strong, positive and ready to do so.”
