There is still no timeline for the opening of another T&T Supermarket in Burnaby nearly a year after it was supposed to open.
The future grocery store at Gilmore Place along Lougheed Highway was expected to open in summer 2025. However, due to construction delays, the store’s opening date has been pushed back indefinitely.
There’s a lot of anticipation over the store, which would be the second T&T location in Burnaby.
“Currently, we have one T&T in Burnaby, and that’s at Metrotown Mall,” said Tina Lee, CEO of T&T Supermarket Inc. “If you’ve ever been there on a weekend, you’ll know it’s jam packed. This additional store will allow us to better serve such a rapidly growing urban hub.”
Many locals who spoke with 1130 News Radio say they are dissapointed by the delays.
“It’s a big highlight of probably why we moved around here,” said Caroline. “I would love for it to be here. I think it would just help us bring the vibrance [to the community]. If T&T was here, it would mean so much for this Brentwood area.”
“It would be nice to have an Asian grocery store, as someone of Asian descent,” said Brian. “I do go to T&T a fair bit… sometimes I need specific stuff from there.”
T&T offers an assortment of Asian snacks, produce, and in-store prepared foods. The Gilmore location is also expected to offer popular street foods like popcorn chicken, sticky rice wraps and Chinese crêpes.
“If I’m working in the city and if I want a quick meal… you can have a whole section,” said Kash. “If I’m buying produce for the catering company I am apart of to pick up fresh seafood… you kind of have to go in to the city.”
“We try to do healthy cooking at this point,” said Ranel. “We both love…Asian cooking…T&T in that location is actually perfect.”
Residents add they look forward to the convenience the store would offer
