Montreal drivers got a bit of relief at the pumps on Monday, with Ottawa’s temporary suspension of some fuel taxes kicking in, leading to a 10-cent drop in price per litre.
Prime Minister Mark Carney had announced last week a pause on fuel excise taxes for regular gasoline and diesel – up until Labour Day.
In Montreal and Laval, gas prices were consistently at 178.9 cents per litre on Monday morning.

In recent days, the CAA’s gas price tracker has listed an average cost of $1.74 per litre at pumps across the country — more than 40 cents higher than a year ago.
