New Westminster Secondary School was put under a temporary lockdown at around 2 p.m. on Monday after an altercation between two people.
According to police and the New Westminster School District, one of the two suspects threatened another person at the school.
The district adds that it was a student who called the police, who arrived shortly after.
Upon arrival, officers tried to locate the suspect, but the person of interest was no longer on school grounds.
“We believe this is an isolated incident between a group of people at the school,” said Sgt. Andrew Leaver.
“Parents and staff may see some police presence at the school for the remainder of the day.”
Soon after the lockdown was lifted, the school resumed operations.
Officers say that an investigation has been launched, which is now in its early stages.
The district says that the school is cooperating with police on identifying the suspect.
Any witnesses are asked to contact the police at 604-525-5411.
