New Democratic Party (NDP) MP Alexandre Boulerice will finally leave the House of Commons in Ottawa to make the leap into Quebec politics under the banner of Québec solidaire (QS) in the riding of Gouin.
The federal MP for Rosemont-La-Petite-Patrie is thus putting an end to rumors that have been circulating for several months.
In doing so, the NDP loses its only MP in Quebec.
Boulerice will therefore seek to succeed QS MNA Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois, who announced his departure from political life at the end of his term.
It should be noted that last February, QS changed its own nomination rules—which had been adopted in 2025—in order to roll out the red carpet for Boulerice.
Indeed, the rule stipulated that in “currently won” ridings, the party would require female or non-binary candidates.
So, to secure Boulerice’s nomination in the riding, QS had an exception adopted.
