Memorial held for Quebec police investigator killed in line-of-duty crash last month

Quebec provincial police are holding a memorial today for Sgt.-Investigator Anaïs Fortin-Cozzens, who was killed in the line of duty last month in a collision on the North Shore.

Fortin-Cozzens, a member of the Sûreté du Québec’s Major Crimes Division in Gatineau, died on March 31, 2026, after a three-vehicle crash in Portneuf-sur-Mer. The collision occurred around 10:45 a.m. on Route 138 as she was travelling toward her headquarters.

According to SQ spokesperson Capt. Benoît Richard, her vehicle collided with a pickup truck and a third vehicle. She suffered critical injuries and was transported to hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

The driver of the pickup truck was seriously injured but is not believed to be in danger. Two other people in the third vehicle sustained minor injuries.

In a statement, the SQ expressed profound sadness over her death and extended condolences to her partner, their children, family and colleagues, as members gather Wednesday to honour her memory.
