Surrey police confirming shooting in Newton neighbourhood; one person killed

The Surrey Police Service (SPS) confirmed that a shooting had taken place on Tuesday near 68th Avenue and 148th Street and that one person was killed.

In a written message, Sgt. Lindsey Houghton says that officers responded to the scene at 6:55 p.m. after receiving reports of shots being fired into a vehicle.

Upon arrival, officers located a man suffering from gunshot wounds.

He was pronounced dead after BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) and Surrey Fire Services had arrived at the scene shortly after, according to SPS.

According to police, a second victim was transported to a hospital “with reportedly minor injuries.”

Since no suspect has been identified, police have not made any arrests yet.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has launched an investigation into the incident, but it can not provide any additional information at this time.
