Driver strikes, hospitalizes 87-year-old pedestrian in Burnaby

Police are investigating after a driver struck and seriously injured a woman in Burnaby Wednesday night.

The Burnaby RCMP says officers responded to reports of the collision on Canada Way near 18 Avenue around 8:45 p.m.

A statement Thursday says the victim, an 87-year-old woman, was taken to hospital in “serious condition.”

Police closed Canada Way in both directions for several hours overnight. The road reopened around 4 a.m.

“Burnaby RCMP’s Criminal Collision Investigation Team (CCIT) attended and has assumed conduct of the investigation,” said Mounties, adding that the driver remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

Witnesses or anyone with dashcam video from the area, leading up to the time of the crash, are asked to reach out to the Burnaby RCMP.
