Hot, potentially record-breaking weekend weather coming to Metro Vancouver

Enjoying the temperate weather in Metro Vancouver? Take advantage of it while you can.

1130 NewsRadio Meteorologist Michael Kuss says the start of May may feel more like the beginning of August.

“The blast of summertime-like heat isn’t going to be around for a long time, but it is going to be significant,” said Kuss.

He says temperatures could reach record highs on Sunday and Monday.

Near the coast, Kuss says it will feel like 22 C, but inland temperatures could reach 28 or 29 C this weekend.

Interior B.C., he says, might get as hot as the “mid-thirties.”

With the heat comes dry conditions, Kuss says.

“We’re coming off a tinder-dry April — only 26 millimetres of precipitation. And we only had recordable precipitation on seven of the 30 days…That dry weather is going to continue, at least for the next week, if not two.”

For Friday, Kuss guarantees a high of 18 degrees at YVR.

Every weekday, he guarantees the daily high temperature as part of the 1130 NewsRadio Vancouver Weather Guarantee, brought to you by Hero Home Care.

If Kuss misses the mark by more than two degrees Celsius, you have a chance at winning the growing jackpot.
