A woman has been sentenced in connection with an incident involving the assault of three babies at Surrey Memorial Hospital last year.
In December, 35-year-old Lindsey Hirtreiter was charged in connection with the assaults, which police said took place on Oct. 28, 2025.
According to the BC Prosecution Service (BCPS), Hirtreiter pled guilty on Monday to one count of assault.
She was sentenced to one day in jail, with the court giving her credit for 150 days of pre-sentence custody.
A court-ordered publication ban has limited details of the case, but the Surrey Police Service (SPS) said last year the alleged assaults took place in the hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
Police said the suspect entered the unit around 7 a.m. on Oct. 28.
Related:
“The suspect then allegedly removed her shirt and made skin-to-skin contact with three infants,” the SPS said.
“None of the infants were injured as a result of the interaction.”
The BCPS says Hirtreiter will be under a probation order for two years, with various conditions.
As well, it says the Crown has directed a stay of proceedings on the other two counts.
This wasn’t Hirtreiter’s first conviction before the courts in B.C. In 2016, she was sentenced after being charged with two counts of causing an animal to continue to be in distress. This was in connection with a 2015 incident in which she was accused of stabbing a dog that had gone missing from its owner’s yard in Surrey’s Chimney Heights area.
