Police seeking witnesses after man attacked in Port Coquitlam

Mounties in Coquitlam are seeking witnesses after a man claimed he was attacked when confronting a group of young people earlier this month.

The Coquitlam RCMP says it responded to reports of an assault on Shaughnessy Street and Lougheed Highway in Port Coquitlam on the night of Saturday, May 2.

The victim alleges he was walking near the intersection when he saw a “group of youths” walking through traffic.

“When the victim confronted the youths about their behaviour, one of them challenged him to a fight, at which point a second one sprayed him in the face with a noxious substance,” Mounties explained Tuesday.

The group reportedly ran away and the man was unable to report the incident until he reached his home half an hour later.

“The victim advised the intersection was busy at the time, but no one stopped.”

The RCMP is now asking witnesses or anyone in the area between 8:50 and 9:10 p.m. with potential dashcam video of the incident to contact the Coquitlam detachment at 604-945-1550 and quote file number 2026-10871.
