Richmond RCMP conduct targeted high-risk driving enforcement

Richmond RCMP are conducting a high-risk driving enforcement program this May.

The Mounties’ targeted operation focuses on speeding and unsafe driving behaviours.

In under 10 hours, officers and volunteers at five roadside locations across the city issued 84 speeding violation tickets. Approximately 31 additional tickets were issued for other driving offences.

Combined fines and penalty point premiums totalled about $21,823.

179 warning letters were issued to registered vehicle owners observed speeding.

“Slowing down gives drivers more time to react and helps prevent serious crashes,” said Const. Christopher Lim of the Richmond RCMP Road Safety Unit.

Officers also stopped several drivers using electronic devices while driving.
