Police in Peel Region have arrested dozens of suspects and laid hundreds of charges in connection with alleged retail thefts in Brampton and Mississauga.
CityNews has learned that 65 people have been arrested as part of the investigation dubbed ‘Project Filcher.’
Police also say many taken into custody are suspected repeat offenders.
It’s not yet known which stores and what types of goods were allegedly targeted by the suspects.
Investigators will release more details of the investigation at Peel Regional Police headquarters at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Retail thefts have been a growing problem in recent years and many of the alleged cases have been fuelled by organized criminal networks. In 2025, near 7,500 incidents were reported in Peel Region alone.
