Squamish missing person investigation now turned over to homicide team

An ongoing investigation into a Lions Bay man not seen since May 15 has been turned over to the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT).

On Monday, the Squamish RCMP received a missing person report after Stewart McLean hadn’t been seen in four days.

McLean was reportedly last seen at his home May 15.

“Squamish RCMP initiated an investigation and, through investigative efforts, uncovered evidence that led investigators to believe Mr. McLean was the victim of a homicide,” Mounties said.

“On May 20, IHIT deployed and assumed conduct of the investigation. Squamish RCMP continues to work closely with IHIT and the Integrated Forensic Identification Service (IFIS) to advance the investigation.”

A Facebook post on Tuesday said McLean worked in Vancouver’s film industry. According to IMDB, he has appeared in many TV programs, including Virgin River, Murder in a Small Town, and Less Than Nothing.

Anyone with information is asked to call the IHIT information line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or email ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
