B.C. gov’t to announce next phase of Vancouver’s Broadway Subway project

The provincial government is set to unveil the latest plans for the Broadway Subway project in Vancouver Friday morning.

B.C. Transportation Minister Mike Farnworth will be joined by former Vancouver Mayor and current federal Housing and Infrastructure Minister Gregor Robertson at the Emily Carr Plaza on Great Northern Way around 9:15 a.m.

The pair is expected to announce the project’s next phase before boarding a train and riding a new route back and forth.

Broadway area business owners will likely be keeping a very close eye on what happens. Retailers and restaurants have been struggling since the project started in 2020.

Business owners near the recent road closure between Main and Quebec, which began on Jan. 26, 2026 and concluded last week, say it wreaked havoc on operations and is responsible for deteriorating sales.

Any relief from the reopening may be short-lived as construction on the Millennium Line SkyTrain extension is expected to close down Broadway between Alberta and Cambie streets for an estimated six months this summer.
