Gas prices ease across greater Montreal ahead of busy weekend travel

Drivers across the Greater Montreal area are seeing some welcome relief at the pumps heading into the weekend, with fuel prices dipping below levels recorded earlier this month.

According to data compiled by Régie Essence Québec, most gas stations on the Island of Montreal were selling regular fuel for approximately 179.9 cents per litre on Friday, marking a noticeable decline from the prices above the two-dollar mark seen in recent weeks.

Several stations were offering even lower prices Friday morning. The Costco station on Boulevard des Sciences posted gas at 177.9 cents per litre, while an Esso station on Henri-Bourassa Boulevard East was among the least expensive in the city at 176.9 cents per litre. Gas was at $2 per litre at the shell station on Marie-Victorin Boulevard in Brossard.

Laval drivers were also seeing relatively stable prices. The Super Gaz station on Cartier Boulevard West and the Costco location near Autoroute 440 were both selling fuel at 175.9 cents per litre, among the lowest prices in the area.

The drop in prices comes as many Quebecers prepare for a busy weekend on the roads, with major cycling events, festivals and travel expected throughout the Montreal region.
