Two vehicle fires believed to be suspicious are under investigation after separate incidents overnight in the greater Montreal area and the Lanaudière region.
The first fire broke out shortly before 11 p.m. Monday in the Vieux-Longueuil borough. Longueuil police (SPAL) were called to the area near 1010 Saint-Georges Street after residents reported a vehicle engulfed in flames.
SPAL says the vehicle involved was a small Honda CR-V sport utility vehicle parked on the street.
Firefighters quickly brought the blaze under control, and no injuries were reported. Investigators established a security perimeter around the scene as they worked to determine the cause of the fire, which police consider suspicious.
Several hours later, at approximately 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, emergency crews responded to another vehicle fire on Route 343 in Saint-Ambroise-de-Kildare, a municipality located roughly 10 kilometres from Joliette.
The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) indicated that the fire appears to be criminal in nature. A fire scene technician was dispatched to assist with the investigation.
Authorities confirmed that no one was injured in the incident, and no arrests had been made as of Tuesday morning.
Investigators in both cases are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the fires and whether any suspects may be involved.
