The Surrey Police Service (SPS) says it is investigating an early morning shooting outside a residence in South Newton Thursday.
Officers responded to reports of the shooting in the area of 57 Avenue and 148 Street around 4 a.m.
When they arrived, they found evidence of shots fired, the SPS says.
The home was occupied at the time of the incident, but no injuries have been reported. The incident is believed to be extortion-related.

“Our extortion response team has taken over the lead in the investigation, and officers will be in the area for probably much of this morning, processing and looking for any physical or digital evidence,” Sgt. Lindsey Houghton told 1130 NewsRadio.
This was the second time in as many weeks the residence has been a target. On May 20, police were called to the same address after a similar incident that resulted in damage to the home’s exterior.
“Our officers will be looking into whether or not this incident has any connections to the last one on May 20,” Houghton said.
“One of the main things we’ll be looking into is trying to determine whether there are any similarities between suspect descriptions and suspect information, if that exists.”
Houghton says there have been several residences and businesses in Surrey that have been targeted multiple times.
