Montreal police (SPVM) are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying three persons of interest connected to a controversial mock execution that took place during a labour demonstration in downtown Montreal last month.
According to SPVM, the incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. on May 2 at Place des Festivals in the Quartier des Spectacles during an event linked to International Workers’ Day activities. Police say the demonstration featured a staged guillotine execution of a puppet representing Quebec Labour Minister Jean Boulet. Investigators are seeking to identify three men who allegedly participated in the symbolic act.
The first individual, described as a man in his 30s, is believed to have severed the head of the puppet. At the time, he was reportedly wearing a brown-beige coat, a black hoodie featuring a wolf’s head design, black pants, a black toque with red lettering, and dark shoes.
The second person of interest is described as a man possibly in his forties. Police allege he kicked the puppet’s severed head after the mock execution. He was wearing a black-and-red cap displaying a diamond-shaped insignia, a denim jacket, an orange shirt, beige pants, dark boots, and black sunglasses. Investigators also noted that he appeared to be carrying a tool resembling a drill handle on his waist.
The third individual, believed to be around 30 years old, is also alleged to have kicked the puppet’s decapitated head. He is described as having dark hair and a mustache and was dressed in a dark coat, a black-and-white sweater with a red collar, and black pants featuring white stripes near the bottom.
The SPVM’s Operational Planning Division is leading the investigation and has released photographs of the three individuals in hopes that members of the public can assist in identifying them.
Police are asking anyone with information, photographs, or video footage related to the incident to contact 911 or their local police station. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through Info-Crime Montréal by phone at 514-393-1133 or online.
