Young man dead after shooting in Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension park

Montreal police (SPVM) are investigating after a shooting in a park in Montreal’s Villeray neighbourhood on Wednesday left a young man dead.

SPVM say they received a 911 call at 10:30 p.m. reporting gunshots heard near de Lanaudière and de Castelnau streets.

“When police officers arrived on the scene, they conducted several searches and located the victim in Turin Park,” said Caroline Chèvrefils, a spokesperson for SPVM. “The victim is a young man. He was unconscious and had a gunshot wound to the upper body.”

Police say paramedics quickly performed CPR on the man, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The victim has not yet been identified,” said Chèvrefils.

Shell casings were found at the scene, police reported.

No arrests have been made. The canine unit was brought in, and surveillance cameras will be reviewed to help determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

The investigation is ongoing.

This is the 10th homicide on Montreal police territory in 2026.
